ABOUT THE ARTIST
Faryal Shehzad

Faryal Shehzad is a Pakistani-Canadian artist who came to Canada with her family in childhood. She grew up in Nova Scotia and moved to Ontario in 2013 to pursue a BFA at OCAD University. Her thesis work in 2017 explored the experiences of South Asian immigrant women. In her practice, Faryal explores and builds upon her lived experiences while referencing traditional and historical art practices through painting, print making, and mixed media works.
Faryal’s works, predominantly paintings, are colourful, sentimental explorations of the relationships we have with the world and the people around us. Working from photographs and composite images, her works capture still, often quiet moments that invite the viewer to pause and reflect.
